Scenes on the Orcas ferry route:
From Seattle drive 65 miles north on I-5 and at Burlington take exit 230 onto State Route 20. From Vancouver BC, drive 75 miles south to the State Route 20 exit.
At the stoplight turn west onto State Route 20 and go 12 miles to Anacortes.
Once you reach Anacortes take a  right at the roundabout onto Commercial Avenue toward the central business district.
After 1.5 miles, take a left at 12th St and follow signs to the ferry terminal, another 4 miles.
At the fare booth, purchase tickets for Orcas Island and be sure to get into the designated Orcas waitng line. (Alternatively, you can park your car at the ferry terminal for a fee to save the car fare and walk, taking a taxi or bus after you arrive at the Orcas ferry landing)
To reach Orcas Island by car from Western Washington and mainland British Columbia take the Anacortes/San Juan Islands ferry route. Please note that reservations are required for all sailings. The ferry system requires that you arrive at the terminal 45 minutes before departure.

Greyhound Bus Lines provides service from Seattle to Mt. Vernon,  http://www.greyhound.com/, 800-231-2222 or 360-336-5111; then you must transfer to the Skagit Transit bus system,  http://www.skat.org/ or 360-757-4433. From the Greyhound Bus Terminal in Mt. Vernon catch the Number 208 bus to the Cascade Mall where you will transfer to the 410 route to the Anacortes ferry terminal (410 not available Saturday and Sunday)
